Bloomington - Normal's
Classical Christian School

The story that inspired our name.

A godless kingdom in ruins, a hopeless and poverty stricken people oppressed by the Vikings, their king in exile - it was one of the darkest times in the history of the British Isles. But against all odds, the White Horse King, Alfred the Great, drove out the Vikings and took back the land for Christendom, establishing the Kingdom of Britain on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ. More importantly, he turned the hearts and minds of the people back to God by making scripture available to many in the common language, erected churches, and instituted schools which taught Latin and even translated Aristotle.

Our school is named in remembrance of this story, as we seek to inspire and educate the hearts and minds of our children in the fear of the Lord, until Christ returns on his white horse.

Our School's Tenets

  • Horse Head as Part of Crown Logo - Past

    Looking to the Past

Modern secular education of the last century is failing our children. We believe the answer lies in the classical model of the past. The present is built upon the workings of the past. We seek to study the past, gleaning insights and time-tested truths in order to continue to lay solid groundwork for the future.

  • Cross of Christ as Part of Crown Logo

All Things are Held Together in Christ

Paul preaches that the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ (Col 2:3). Solomon tells us the fear of the Lord is the beginning—not just of wisdom—but also of knowledge (Prov. 1:7). All subjects are interconnected in Christ, and facts are facts because Jesus is Lord and Creator of the Universe.

  • Opened Book as part of Crown Logo

    The Great Books

Man seeks meaning through story; so what stories, philosophies, and poetry we are drawn into shape our mind and character. The Great Books reach across the ages and invite the reader to join them in the timeless stories and conversations of the greatest men and women who ever existed.

  • 7 Bars as Part of Crown Logo

    The Seven Liberal Arts

A certain level of knowledge and wisdom is required to be truly educated and free. To study the Seven Liberal Arts is to become wise in the art of language and trained in the art of number.

  • Three Stars as Part of Crown Logo

The True, The Good, and The Beautiful

These are not abstract ideas. These are knowable realities that we discover in God, through his word, and his creation. God is Truth. He is Good. And He is Beauty. When a child is taught these realities their soul is truly filled and nourished.

  • Horse Head on Crown - Future

    Looking to the Future

Our hope is that students leave our doors prepared not just for college and a career, but for all of life and godliness. Furthermore, our prayer is that graduates will eagerly anticipate the triumphant return of King Jesus, riding in on a White Horse, to create a new Heavens and a New Earth.

At White Horse Academy, we believe in...

  • Parent and Child reading a book

    Partnering with Parents

Parents have the God-given responsibility and privilege to raise their children in the instruction of the Lord (Eph. 6:4). We do not replace parents, but come along side them in this responsibility by providing an education that reflects our shared Christian worldview.

  • School Friends Walking and Talking

    Educating the Whole Person

Children are not only minds, but also bodies, souls and spirits. Through the avenue of the Seven Liberal Arts, we educate intellectually, physically, socially, and spiritually as we aim to develop the whole person, which is the ultimate purpose for any Classical Christian academy.

  • School children walking up stairs

    Affordable Education

Although Classical Christian education is a worthwhile investment, cost should not be the roadblock that forces families to choose an alternative. We strive to make this unique education accessible to families across the economic spectrum, primarily through our half day private school model.

  • Coffee and a good book

    A Standard of Excellence

We value an education that provides students with certain cornerstone skills that go far beyond what is necessary to go to college or get a job, but rather to read well, think well, and speak well. These intentionally cultivated skills are foundational for effective Christian leaders who shape society for the glory of God.
